Configuring SMS Notifications
Connect your SMS sender, set up automated alerts, and send your first broadcast.
1. SMS on ShuleXtra
ShuleXtra sends SMS through NextSMS, a Tanzanian gateway with local delivery rates. Each subscription plan includes a monthly SMS allowance (from 100 on Msingi up to 5,000 on Enterprise), and additional credit can be arranged through our team if your school sends more.
2. Configure your sender settings
Open SMS Settings under the Broadcasts section. Here you configure your school's sender identity so messages arrive under a name parents recognise rather than a random number. Sender name registration is handled with the gateway; our support team assists with this during onboarding as it requires approval on the NextSMS side.
3. Automated notifications
Once SMS is active, the platform sends messages automatically at key moments: payment confirmations when a fee is received, alerts when exam results are published, and transport notifications where GPS tracking is in use. These require no manual work after setup.
4. Send a broadcast
For announcements, use Broadcasts to compose a message and choose the audience: all guardians, a specific class or stream, or staff. Review the recipient count before sending, then track delivery from the broadcast detail screen. Send yourself a test message first to confirm formatting and the sender name.
Keeping numbers clean
Delivery is only as good as your data. Encourage class teachers to verify guardian phone numbers at the start of each term; the student profile is the single source the SMS system reads from.
